What is single origin coffee?
Origin coffee is an elegant name with a mysterious air that defines a very simple concept. It refers to a coffee that is produced or comes from the same geographical area or from a single producer, crop or region of a country. This means that it is a product that comes from a farm or cooperative. The concept also includes the lot or crop that produces a specific variety of coffee.
How do you really determine if a coffee is of origin?
According to the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), “the most important thing about single-origin coffee is traceability, knowing exactly where the coffee comes from and that it is one type of coffee and not a blend.” In other words, what allows any type of coffee to be given this label is the reference to the unique place where it was grown as an indicator of its quality.
Knowing the origins of coffee can be a tool for the coffee enthusiast to understand in depth the profile of the coffee and its flavors. A coffee from Colombia is not the same as one from Brazil, but neither is it the same for coffee from different regions within the same country.

The current interest in single-origin coffee may have something to do with an increase in the number of specialty coffee shops offering alternative brewing methods such as filtered and Aeropress. In other words, the desire of the industry and baristas to constantly experiment and innovate has led to an attempt to leave the conventional behind in new forms of coffee. What does it mean for the consumer to know the coffee of origin?

Today, single-origin coffee is synonymous with good choice (as most are thoroughly evaluated by the highest global standards and systems in the industry).

This coincides with the general tendency of consumers to highlight foods and drinks in general based on the reputation of the producer.
